Ekaterina Petina



Ekaterina Petina was born in Sevastopol/Crimea in 1983. At the age of ten, she was enrolled in the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet in St. Petersburg. In 2001 she graduated from the Vaganova Academy and joined the Mariinsky Ballet.

Ekaterina Petina's style is both athletic and graceful and she has been noted for her versatility, switching easily from classical to modern roles. She drew particular attention by her interpretations of modern choreographies. Since her breakthrough role in Approximate Sonata by William Forsythe in 2005 she has emerged as one of the specialists of the contemporary repertoire in the company.

Petina has been coached and mostly influenced by the company teachers Yuri Fateyev and Olga Moiseyeva. She took part in numerous tours with the Mariinsky Ballet, e.g. in Japan, UK, China, USA, Canada, Mexico, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Turkey.

Her partners include Anton Pimonov, Andrei Merkuriev, Maxim Khrebtov, Islom Baimuradov, and Nikolai Tsiskaridze.
