Ekaterina Kondaurova
Ekaterina Kondaurova was born in Moscow in 1982. After she was not admitted to the Moscow State Choreographic Academy
(the Bolshoi ballet school) Kondaurova went to Leonid Lavrovsky’s school where she studied with Ludmila Sorokina.
At the age of 12 she moved to the Vaganova Academy in St. Petersburg where she was taught by
I. Udalenkova. In 2001 she graduated from the Vaganova Academy and joined the Mariinsky Theatre.
In recent years Ekaterina Kondaurova who is officially listed as a second soloist, has developed
into one of the most solicited dancers of the company and is considered one of the brightest personalities
of the new generation at the Mariinsky.
In 2006 she won the prestigious Benois de la Dance award as best female dancer of the year for her
role of Zarema in Rostislav Zakharov's ballet The Fountain of Bakhchisarai.
Kondaurova possesses a positively dominant stage presence attracting all the attention of the audience.
Tall, with fiery red hair and long lines, sometimes with a "vamp"-charisma, she is impossible to overlook and regularly
makes a fascinating impression in both contemporary and classical repertoire. With her powerful and confident style, at
the same time incredibly elegant and gorgeous, Ekaterina appears to be a natural born performer of Forsythe's ballets. She
has been stunning in Forsythe’s Steptext and In the middle somewhat elevated and has proven to be almost irreplaceable
in the modern productions of the company. Since the premiere of In the Middle Somewhat Elevated in March 2004 she has been
dancing in almost every single performance of that ballet. Also her roles in Balanchine’s and 19th-century ballets – both in
St. Petersburg and on international tours - earned excellent reviews.
Ekaterina Kondaurova's teacher at the Mariinsky is Olga Chenchikova, a former principal of the Kirov ballet.
Kondaurova has toured with the Mariinsky throughout the world.
